When a third-party gateway makes sense
Shopify charges 2% on Basic, 1% on Grow and 0.5% on Advanced when you use a gateway other than Shopify Payments. That fee is on top of whatever the gateway itself charges.
The maths only works if the external gateway's rate is more than 2% cheaper, or if you cannot use Shopify Payments in your country at all.

- Can I avoid the fee?
- Only by using Shopify Payments. There is no waiver for other gateways.

- Yes, PayPal counts as a third-party gateway and triggers the fee.
