Depop vs Poshmark: Fee Comparison for Resellers
Guide · 2026-10-17
Most fee comparisons still list Depop as a 10% platform. For sellers in the US, UK and Australia that has not been true for some time. Depop charges no selling fee at all in those markets, which makes this comparison far less close than the usual write-ups suggest.
The structures
| Platform | Selling fee | Payment fee | Charged on shipping |
|---|---|---|---|
| Depop (US) | None | 3.3% + $0.45 | Yes, on item plus shipping and tax |
| Depop (outside US/UK/AU) | 10% | PayPal, varies | Yes |
| Poshmark | 20% ($15+), $2.95 flat (under $15) | None | No, buyer pays the label |
Depop's own help centre states the position plainly: no selling fee is charged to sellers based in the UK, US or Australia. The optional boosting fee is a separate matter and is covered below.
Payout comparison
Item price only, no shipping charged to the buyer, no product cost.
| Sale price | Depop net (US) | Poshmark net | Depop advantage |
|---|---|---|---|
| $10 | $9.22 | $7.05 | +$2.17 |
| $20 | $18.89 | $16.00 | +$2.89 |
| $50 | $47.90 | $40.00 | +$7.90 |
| $100 | $96.25 | $80.00 | +$16.25 |
The gap widens with price because Poshmark's 20% scales and Depop's cost is almost entirely a 3.3% percentage plus a fixed $0.45. At $100 the difference is more than $16 on a single sale, which is not a rounding error in anyone's month.
The $0.45 matters more than it looks
Depop's only real cost on a US sale is payment processing. On a $10 item that is $0.33 plus $0.45, an effective rate of 7.8%. On a $100 item the same fixed fee is 0.45%, so the effective rate drops to 3.75%.
This means Depop's advantage is smallest on cheap items and largest on expensive ones. If you sell $8 T-shirts, the fixed fee eats a meaningful share. If you sell $80 jackets, Depop is close to free by marketplace standards.
Where Poshmark still wins
Fees are not the whole decision, and pretending otherwise would be misleading. Poshmark's 20% buys something: a buyer base that expects brand names, a sharing mechanic that rewards daily effort, and a flat-rate shipping label the buyer pays for separately.
Depop skews younger and more trend-driven. A vintage Y2K piece may sell in days there and sit for months on Poshmark. A Coach bag does the reverse. Sell-through rate decides more outcomes than fee percentage does, and the two platforms have genuinely different audiences.
What about boosting?
Depop's boosted listings cost 12% for UK and US sellers on listings created from 23 March 2026, and 8% outside those markets. Boosting is optional and charged on the item price, plus shipping if no Depop label was used.
At 12%, boosting roughly triples Depop's effective cost on a typical order. It can still be worth it, but it should be modelled rather than assumed. Run the boost field in the calculator and compare the margin with and without.
Practical rule
- Higher-priced items: Depop's near-zero fee compounds fastest here. A $100 sale nets $16 more than on Poshmark.
- Cheap items: the $0.45 fixed fee is the constraint. Bundling raises the average order and dilutes it.
- Boosting: model it. At 12% the fee advantage over Poshmark narrows sharply.
- Audience: check where the specific item actually sells before optimising the fee.
