Mercari vs Poshmark Fees: Which Platform Pays You More?
Guide · 2026-10-17
Both platforms target the same resale seller, but their fee structures are completely different shapes: Mercari charges a percentage plus a fixed processing fee, Poshmark charges a flat commission.
The structures
| Platform | Selling fee | Payment fee |
|---|---|---|
| Mercari | 10% | 2.9% + $0.50 |
| Poshmark | 20% ($15+), $2.95 (under $15) | Included |
Payout comparison
| Sale price | Mercari net | Poshmark net | Winner |
|---|---|---|---|
| $10 | $8.21 | $7.05 | Mercari +$1.16 |
| $20 | $16.92 | $16.00 | Mercari +$0.92 |
| $50 | $43.05 | $40.00 | Mercari +$3.05 |
| $100 | $86.60 | $80.00 | Mercari +$6.60 |
| $200 | $173.20 | $160.00 | Mercari +$13.20 |
Mercari wins on fees at every price point, and the gap widens as the price rises. At $200 the difference is $13.20, which is more than the entire margin on many items.
Why Poshmark still makes sense
Poshmark's flat shipping label is the reason. Buyers pay a fixed shipping rate regardless of item weight, which makes heavy items (boots, coats, bundles) far more attractive to list there. On Mercari, shipping is calculated by weight and a heavy item can lose the fee advantage entirely.
Poshmark also has a stronger social mechanic: sharing, parties and offers drive discovery in a way Mercari's search-driven model does not. For a new seller with no followers, that matters more than a few dollars of fees.
The $15 cliff, quantified
Below $15, Poshmark charges a flat $2.95. On a $14 item that is 21%, worse than the 20% commission. On a $5 item it is 59%. Mercari's structure, while carrying a fixed $0.50, degrades more gracefully.
Practical rule
- Under $25: list on Mercari. Fees are lower and there is no shipping-label distortion.
- Heavy or bulky items: list on Poshmark. The flat buyer-paid label protects your margin.
- Brand-name fashion with an audience: Poshmark's social reach can beat a fee advantage.
- Everything else: list on both and delist when one sells.
